Architectual design inspiration

Kowtow 13/14 collection

  • Kowtow's 13/14 summer collection inspiration.
This link has helped direct what I want to focus on and portray through my collection which is a Memorial to Christchurch and the sustainability of the city. 'The Remembrance' is what I will call the collection. I will incorporate sustainability by using a wide range of 100% wool, 100% organic fair trade cotton and 100% silk fabrics for my garment, only incorporating acrylic fabrics where necessary.  I want to focus on how nature and the broken building as corresponding with each other, similar to how Kowtow has based their summer 13/14 collection on the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and how he focuses on simplistic open spaces and the effects of nature on them. I want to look at the way light bounces off the buildings, the large bare yet broken concrete walls and stain glass windows and the patterns which are reflected back. I will also look at the winter rain and how it falls against the buildings with holes and open wounds and apply this to the silhouette and drape of the fabric in my collection. I will incorporate some wide openings in my garments to represent the holes and cracks in the buildings we still see today. The way in which the wind passes through the holes in the buildings will also have an affect on my silhouette used, which will be mainly focussed on a natural flow and fall, nothing too defined and stiff which works in well with my fabrics such as wool and cotton.
